Knowing Who is At Your Social Gathering

security at social eventsThe summer months truly are a time for entertaining both indoors and out. If you are having a large gathering you may be looking forward to having it in the backyard. The problem is if you don’t know everyone who is attending this function you could easily have a unwanted guest around who is only there to rip off your home.

When there are a lot of people at your social event it is impossible to keep track of who is who and who is where. Most often all of the activity takes place in the backyard but the front door can easily be left open. It is thought that with so many people around it is very unlikely that an intruder would even dare to enter the home. Don’t be mislead by this as some thieves are very brazen and are masters at what they do.

They will just mingle in with the crowd and when the opportunity presents itself head off to the area where you are most likely to have some valuables. Or it is not uncommon for many women to just leave their purses unattended in one of the rooms of the house and they become easy pickings.

What you want to do is ensure that your front door is locked. You may want to put a note on its exterior for guests that are arriving to please come around to the back or to an alternate door.

You can also put a note on the inside of the door asking guests to not use it, then if you have a security systems where you can set it for designated areas, set it for the front door.

If you have a guest at your event that you don’t know take the time to find out who brought them, and who they are. Watch for suspicious actions, and don’t hesitate to bring your concerns to your spouse or another adult at your gathering.

It isn’t just when you are having a backyard social gathering that you need to be concerned about the security of your other entrances. There have been several robberies that have taken place when the homeowners are out working on the front lawn, and have forgotten to lock the back door.

Always be alert and security concerning your home whether you are there are not. Do not leave it unprotected even for a few minutes. You may just be popping over to the neighbors to borrow something and while you are doing this a thief has managed to be in and out of your home taking with them several of your valuables.
