Many of us spend a lot of time protecting our family and our assets in both our home and businesses. We believe that we worked hard for them and we have the right to protect them. What we may forget though is that what Remembrance Day signifies has made it possible for us to be in this position.
If it weren’t for our soldiers fighting for our Country then we would have no need to look at security for our belongings because we wouldn’t have all that much to protect. It was their great sacrifice that has given us the opportunity to thrive financially but most importantly to live in a country that is free so we can enjoy life as it is.
Once a year through the wearing of the red Poppy and the planned memorial events in each of our cities we take a few moments on November 11th to take ourselves back in history to remember those that make life as it is for us possible.
While we have been raised to respect this special day, unfortunately many of us are so caught up in our hectic lifestyles that we tend to not even be able to get the time to take that moment of silence that we are asked to participate in at 11am on the 11th of November.
Each of our family members are scattered about in different locations at this particular time so we don’t get to share this special moment with them. What you may want to consider doing is when you family is leaving together to go about your business on the 11th and you are about to set your alarm, just give a moment’s thought as a family to all those soldiers who made what you are doing possible. If it weren’t for their dedication to preserving our way of life then perhaps there would be no need to set that alarm today. You may not have the beautiful home and possessions that you are protecting.
Don’t forget to buy your red poppy and wear it with pride. It is meant to be a symbol of those who paid a great price for us, and each time we look at it give a moment of thought to this. A little of our time is such a small price to pay compared to what we have been given.
