Most of us feel comfortable when the lights are on in our home, even if we happen to be alone. Sometimes though when we are relying on our outdoor lighting for protection, it can give us a false sense of security.
It is an eery feeling when we think we may have heard something around the outdoors area of our home, and when we look out all we can see is pitch black. You may have a light right at the entrance of your home, but it isn’t doing much by way of lighting for the rest of the perimeter. At the same time you don’t want your exterior lit up like a neon sign either.
Another concern when it comes to lighting is when you arrive home at night, at the house is in darkness, and you forgot to leave a light on when you left this morning.
For both of these situations there are some easy remedies.
For your outdoor lighting you can choose to go with motion detector lighting. This way your lights are only going to come on when the sensors in these lights detect some type of movement. They are not nearly as sensitive as when they first came out where at the slightest breeze they would come on, which tended to make people nervous. You may want to have these strategically placed where normally you would not want or need lights on around the perimeter of your home, but at the same time you don’t want strangers lurking in these areas either. Let’s face it most us would like to be warned that there is someone about before they are at our doors or windows. Also, for an unwanted individual just entering your property perimeter to be caught doing so in a bright light may be a viable deterrent.
You can also choose to use motion lighting for the close proximity areas of your home, like close to your doors and windows, although for your main entrance and exit doors you may want to choose traditional lighting, which you can still control as to when it comes on and off without having to constantly remember to do this. This takes us to the next lighting solution.
Remembering to turn the lights on before leaving home in the morning can be a real hassle, and is also a waste of electricity. The problem is easily solved with the installation of a quality timer that lets you dictate the automatic on and off times for the lighting that you want to control.
