Temperature Alert Security Could Be a Money Saver

When we have a mild winter as we have had at least so far for this year, we may get a little lax with some of our add on security devices. This doesn’t mean that we let our guard down in respect to home break ins or theft, but refers to other security requirements like we can use for the protection of our environment. One of these is temperature security.Honeywell Wi-Fi Temperature Alert

One of the big risks that we can face with our dwellings in cold weather is pipes freezing. At the very least it can mean an inconvenience. Either we have to wait for them to thaw out. Or we have the hassle of trying to thaw them, which can create some added danger. In the worst cases the pipes can burst, and then we have a real added expense on our hands.

So what’s available security wise to give us a little extra protection.

If you pose this question to the experts at Prelock security, one thing they will probably recommend is the RTH8580WF Wi-Fi Programmable Touch screen Thermostat.

It is one of the latest offerings of Honeywell in their thermostat line of products. It is connected to your wi-fi system. This means no matter where you are, you have full control of temperature control in your home via your smartphone, or tablet or computer.

When the weather is mild we tend to take it for granted. We all like to save a little money so we may tend to turn the heat down lower than what we normally would during the winter months. For some that are really intent on saving some money they may decide to turn off the heat all together in the rooms they don’t use.

If there happens to be pipes in this particular room and the temperature really drops then there is a big risk of the pipes freezing. Then comes the job of dealing with this.

One common occurrence at thawing out the pipes is to use a blow torch to heat the pipes. This can be dangerous. Some major insurance companies suggest using a hair dryer to complete this task instead. It is just as effective and much safer.

You are probably more aware of taking extra measures for your main residence in the protection of the pipes but if you happen to own a second residence like a cottage, there could be an even greater risk of the pipes freezing. You are not there to monitor this potential problem. Rather than worry or second guess whether the temperature is right at this location you can make use of this innovative temperature alert device from Honeywell at this location too.
