End of Summer Safety & Security Tips

summer security tipsOnce we hit the month of August here in the Toronto area we know that soon summer will becoming to an end and we want to make the most of it. This is the month that many people like to take their few weeks vacation. It is also a busy month for many home break in artists.

Hopefully you are conscious about implementing good security measures all throughout the year, but there are a few extra steps you may want to implement during the time you are going to be away on your vacation. Small security measures like letting your neighbor know that you will be away is one of them. At least they will be aware that nobody should be about your home being as you are not there. It is also a good idea even if you have a good alarm system in place to arrange for an individual to check out the interior of your home on occasion during this time. You may want to instruct them to vary their times at doing this. This way if some crook is observing your home for a potential break in they are going to see a check in routine. Also, don’t tell strangers about your holiday plans. Of course if you are using a smart phone as part of your security regime you will be able to check up on your home no matter where you are.

August is also a month that is favored for some weekend camping events. The weather usually co-operates but the nights may be a little cooler. It is a pleasant experience to have a warm campfire going where the family can sit around it and enjoy some quality time together. Be cautious of the dangers that may be presented here, by getting too close to the fires. Some clothing garments will easily burn because of their materials, and a small spark from the fire can cause a dangerous situation.

Enjoying those end of season barbecues is another popular event. Safety has to be a priority here and this includes keeping the barbecue away from the house or the tent if camping.

Other big events that occur during the end of summer is fairs or the trip to the Canadian National Exhibition. Thieves that want to go about their work know that many families will set out on a day trip like this during this time of year. In your excitement to get out and enjoy these events don’t forget to do your home security walk about to make sure the windows and all doors are locked and the security system is activated.
