One of the most common home detectors that most of us are familiar with is the fire detectors that we use in our homes. Thanks to media education that has stressed the importance of these devices and the mandatory rulings for using them many lives have been saved.
There are differences in the types of detectors that can be utilized for your home safety.
Heat detectors:
These are often used in areas that may be vulnerable to heat created by a fire. For example in garages, kitchens, or other areas where smoke detectors are not the only device to rely on. When these are linked into your security system they will relay data to your system and in turn to your monitoring station when they are activated.
Smoke detectors:
Usually where there is smoke there is fire, and every second counts when this is the situation. By being alerted as quickly as possible that fire danger is present it allows for an immediate response. The maximized way of getting the most protection from your smoke detectors is to have them wired into your security equipment so the monitoring station applicable to this will be given an alert when the smoke detector is triggered.
Natural Gas detectors:
If you utilize natural gas in your home then you really don’t want to be without this type of detector. This is potentially an explosive type of gas and you want to know if there is a leak as quickly as possible.
Carbon Monoxide detectors:
This type of detector is one that is gaining in popularity as is the smoke and heat detectors, and as of 2014 these detectors are now becoming mandatory in homes in Ontario. They are affordable in cost and have the ability to save lives from carbon monoxide poisoning which can be fatal.
Radon Gas Detectors:
Radon may be something that you are not familiar with it but it too is an odorless gas, which could accumulate in your basement and have serious side effects to it. It can be generated from the underneath of your home as it can be found in soil, rock and ground water.
It may seem like there are a whole lot of detectors that need to be looked at but they all have potential life saving features about them. For the most part they are not expensive, don’t require a lot of maintenance and don’t interfere with the decor of your home.
