As the seasons change, most businesses that are retail orientated like to give their store an over haul. Some will just change their signage, while others like to revamp their layout. No matter how detailed you are going to be about your spring presentation of your business, it is the ideal time for looking over your security measures.
Hopefully your business has never had any security issues. If this is the case then you may have become complacent about what security protection you have in place.

Then you want to take a look at your internal security measures. As a retailer being open to the public what security measures do you have in place for shop lifting if you don’t as yet have a security system in place that can assist you with this.
The layout of your store is going to be critically important. You need to have a visual view of items that are easily lifted. You may have remembered back in the old days the retail stores would have floor walkers. Some still do, but most have become much more modernized.
Your staff has to be trained to be on the lookout for potential thieves. Then know how to handle the situation. You should have a good idea from your bookkeeping and financial records how bad you are getting hit with theft. Your inventory counts are critical.
Unfortunately almost every retail store suffers at least minimal losses, but if you are not aware of these then they could be getting out of hand, when there is lots that you can do about it.
You also have to be concerned about internal employee theft. If you give the indication to your staff that you are not concerned about theft, then you are opening a door for them to start taking a few items here and there. This is not the type of work environment you want to be creating.
