Well it is that time of year again where we need to turn the clock ahead and means we lose an hour’s sleep. While it takes a bit for our lifestyle to adjust to this, it is also the prime time for doing a personal security review for you and your family.
Once spring really does arrive it can become easy to forget about doing any security checks, so using the time change as a reminder that this needs to be done is a good way of making sure the family is being protected.
You want to start with the personal safety alarms and alerts. First make sure that you are using an up to date model. With some of the older models some people were disconnecting them because they were so sensitive. These are not expensive items and updating them will insure you are taking advantage of the latest technology.
If you don’t need to perform an update then make sure the batteries are replaced. Once you have done this make sure that you test them to ensure they are making the proper contact, and also be sure to use good quality batteries.
Now is also a good time to go through a fire drill with the family. Hopefully you have a good escape route plan in place, but it will only be good if everyone in the family, including guests are aware of it. Beforehand make sure that you inspect all of the exits and that they are fully accessible. During the cold winter months some people have a tendency to block off their fire escape portals to reduce drafts, or to block up doors that are not normally used for regular traffic during the winter months. It is often forgotten that these may be potential ways that are for escaping a fire within the home.
There is still a lot of indoor time to do some other home security checks as well. You may want to check out your wiring to make sure none of it has become frayed or damaged. Talk about fire safety with the whole family and consider whether this spring is a good time for you to increase your current security measures.
You can always call the security experts at Pre-lock for some good advice as to what is going to keep your family and home a safer environment.
